Michael J. Mack, a resident of Salem, Oregon, passed away on July 8, 2026 due to vascular dementia.
Born on December 26, 1947, in Corvallis, Oregon, Mike grew up in Albany and Corvallis. He graduated from Corvallis High School in 1966.
After high school, Mike attended Oregon State University briefly and then Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon to play baseball. After returning to Corvallis he met Beverly Wulfers, who was attending OSU. They married on March 29, 1970, in Corvallis.
Mike worked at Leading Plywood Mill and later Georgia Pacific Mill until their closure in 1971. He then took on a job as a route salesman at Sunnybrook Dairy, which allowed him to enjoy many afternoons of golf. He also participated in city league basketball, softball, and semi-pro baseball during this period.
In addition to his primary job, Mike held a second part-time job, commuting to Salem to assist his father-in-law in building a manufactured housing community. In 1978, Mike and Bev moved to Salem to work full-time for Bev's father, eventually taking over management in 1985 when Bev's parents retired.
The Macks have two children, Scott and Heather. During their childhood, the family enjoyed activities like camping, motorcycling, fishing, boating, and water skiing. In 1999, Mike retired from his wife's family business and spent his leisure time golfing, fishing, and hunting.
In his later years, Mike dedicated his life to Jesus and became a part of a church community, actively serving and giving of his time and resources. After the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he volunteeed alongside several church members to assist in the cleanup effors. He was baptized in the Jordan River, during a trip to Isreal, on March 24, 2006.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly Mack, their two adult children, Scott Mack and Heather Daviscourt, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Fruitland Community Church, located at 6252 Fruitland Road NE, Salem, Oregon 97317 at a date to be determined.
