Mildred Schiewek (Glaser) went home to be with her Lord on July 27th, 2025, surrounded by her children. Born on April 19, 1941, in Salem, Oregon, to Frederick Liveright and Ida Gertrude Glaser, Mildred’s journey began in the Pacific Northwest but soon took her across continents. Raised in Africa where her parents served as missionaries, Mildred's early years were steeped in service, faith, and the vibrant cultures of another continent.
Her family returned to Oregon, settling in the small town of Shedd, where Mildred graduated with pride in the first class of Central Linn High School. In 1960, her path intersected with that of John Alvin Schiewek at Central Assembly of God Church. Their love blossomed, and they were married on December 16, 1961, beginning a partnership rooted in faith, laughter, and devotion.
Throughout her life, Mildred was a passionate evangelist, boldly sharing the love of Jesus wherever she went. She was a member of Sweet Adeline’s in her younger years, Assemblies of God her entire life, never wavering in her commitment to church and community. Whether through sponsoring children in Africa, volunteering at the State Fair’s “God Truck” booth, or simply offering an encouraging word, she lived her faith with joy and conviction.
Mildred was known for her good sense of humor, warm heart, and generous spirit. She had a soft spot for milk chocolate, which she delighted in sharing with friends and family. She enjoyed playing games with her family and other couples. Her days were filled with service, song, laughter, and an abiding love for people. Mildred and her husband co-hosted a televangelist program on T.V. She found profound joy in being present for others and in living a life that reflected her Savior’s love.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Arlene (Ray) Meyer; her devoted children Cheryl (Ted) Werth of Salem, Oregon, Loren (Lori) Schiewek of Lacey, Washington, and Kerry Schiewek of Eugene, Oregon; and his treasured friend, Lainey Rasmussen. Her legacy continues in her grandchildren Lisa Werth, Danielle (Ryan) Martin, Timothy (Nora) Werth, Nathan (Breanne) Schiewek, and Zackary Schiewek; and her six great-grandchildren, with one more blessing on the way.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Schiewek and brother Ernest Glaser. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in each person whose life she touched.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Paradise Island Park located at 3100 Turner Road SE Salem, Oregon. Private burial was held at Fox Valley Cemetery in Lyons, Oregon.
