Obituary

Nancy Harvene Coble, born March 25, 1947, in Eugene, Oregon, passed away on October 11, 2026, in Mill City, Oregon. She was the daughter of Imogene (Nitzen) and Harvey Allen Schaffer, and grew up in Lane County, where she graduated from Pleasant Hill High School. Her early years were shaped by family, community, and the Oregon landscapes she cherished throughout her life.

In 1981 Nancy made her home in Mill City, settling into the canyon she adored. It was a place that brought her peace, joy, and a deep sense of belonging. Her home was her sanctuary, and she filled it with warmth, laughter, and the love she poured into everyone who walked through her door.

To her family Nancy was Nanny. Being a grandmother was her heart’s calling, and she embraced it with unmatched devotion. She loved spending time with her family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Whether she was playing bingo, camping beneath the trees, taking mountain drives, or heading to the beach she loved so dearly, Nancy found joy in simple moments and shared that joy generously.

Traveling to Georgia to visit her “favorite daughter” and family was one of her happiest traditions, and she cherished every visit. Her heart was big enough to hold everyone, and she became a Nanny not just to her own grandchildren, but to anyone who needed love, comfort, or a gentle presence. Her kindness was steady, her affection unwavering, and her ability to make others feel cherished was what made her the greatest Nanny in the world.

Nancy is survived by her siblings Sharron Jennings, Roseanne Dotson, Michael Schaffer, and Ken Schaffer; and by her children Allen David Kiel, Shawn Rose Stuart, and Thomas Earl Coble. Nanny will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Trinity Rose Kiel, Tarryn Holly Roberts (Ethan Roberts), Lewis Hampton‑Kiel, Amelia Hampton‑Kiel, Duke Hampton‑Kiel, Chloe Coble, and Carter Coble; as well as her great‑grandchildren Trevor Roberts and Holly Kate Roberts. She is further survived by Fred and Roxie Schroeder and the many people who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Imogene, and her step‑mother, Elaine Schaffer.

Nanny’s legacy is one of wide, generous, and enduring love. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched simply by being herself.

A viewing will take place on October 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon for anyone wishing to attend.
