Nancy Cray, recently of Hines / long time Harney County resident, passed away at Willamette Manor assisted living facility in Lebanon, OR, on Sunday 8 Feb. She was 84 years old.
Nancy was born in Portland, Oregon, on 17 April 1941. She was adopted by Bill and Delight Blake and passed her childhood in Sandy. Upon her graduation from high school in 1959 Bill Blake moved his family to Burns where they ran the Highland Rock and Flower Shop on Hines Blvd where she worked as a florist. She was a competent equestrian and met George Cray while riding on the Bell-A Ranch near Burns. They were married at Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Egan on 13 August 1960. After working on related properties near Lapine and then Bend, they settled on their property on Foley Drive north of Burns in 1973 with their four children. There Nancy built up a flock of Suffolk sheep and influenced a generation as a 4H leader. In 1997 they moved to Hines where they lived until June 2025. She helped organize the Oregon Symphony concerts for several years.
She is survived by her husband George, son William (Bill) Cray of Sweet Home, daughter Kathleen of Buckeye AZ, and sons Shawn and David Cray of Aiken SC, three granddaughters and one great-grandson.
