Raymond Valentine Bonior

Raymond Valentine Bonior was born on November 23, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, to Julian and Marie Bonior (Karlowski). He grew up in Michigan and, on March 9, 1953, was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served his country until his discharge in 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal.

Following his military service, Raymond graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He married Emogene on February 27, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan. Together, they moved to San Jose, California, where Raymond began his career as an Aeronautical Engineer with Lockheed Missile & Space Company.

As a young adult, Raymond enjoyed playing amateur hockey on a team called Sandlot. He had a lifelong love of learning and reading, particularly books about history and the Civil War. He also loved music, especially jazz. There was almost always music playing in their home, and Raymond and Emogene loved to dance together.

True to his lifelong pursuit and sharing of knowledge, Raymond was a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge and a member of the National Sojourners and the Heroes of ’76 Club.

Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Emogene. He is survived by his children, Steven Bonior, Katherine Fouts, David Bonior, Mathew Bonior, and Cynthia Bonior; grandchildren, Mathew Jr., Jason, Jennifer, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Luke, Amelia, and William.

Raymond will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love of learning and history, his appreciation of music, and the many years he shared with Emogene and those who knew and loved him.
