Rex Daum Sorick

Rex Sorick passed away after a short stay at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany Oregon.  Rex was 2 weeks from turning 98 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley.  They had been married 65 years at the time of her death in 2011.  He is survived by his daughters, Janet Lynn Fussell of Gresham, Oregon and Julie Sorick of Bend, Oregon.  He had 3 grandchildren:  Robin Haggard, Kelly Rex Fussell and Nicholas Hill.  He also had 2 great grandchildren:  Courtney Lynn and Taylor Annie Haggard.     Rex was born in Hillsdale, Wyoming, the son of Harvey Lester Sorick and Amy Josephine Daum.   His was the last surviving from his family of brothers Merl, Neil and Max and sisters Beryl and Eva. Rex achieved the rank of Major in the US Marine Corp. As a Marine pilot in WWII he served America in the South Pacific and was called-back again to train pilots during the Korean War. For the past 30+ years his home was in Salem, Oregon where for the past 8 years he was provided Veterans Home Health services. He often expressed appreciation for the help he received from the VA and especially for the high quality wonderful nurse who came to his door to coordinate his care over the entire 8 years and make sure he was doing well.  He was thankful and proud to be a Veteran who loved his country.
