Obituary

Richard John Terry, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, chaplain, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, in Turner, Oregon, at the age of 75.

Born on November 11, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, Richard lived a life defined by faith, service, hard work, and love for others. Following his graduation from high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army as a mechanic and served his country during the Vietnam War. His military service reflected the strength of character, dedication, and sense of duty that would remain evident throughout his life.

After returning home from Vietnam, Richard began a distinguished career with Portland General Electric (PGE). Through years of commitment, perseverance, and leadership, he rose through the ranks and eventually retired as a foreman. He earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike through his dependability, skill, and willingness to help others.

Richard enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies throughout his life. He found great satisfaction tending to his yard, spending time shooting guns, and embracing new experiences and challenges. A man of ingenuity and determination, he built the first lay-down soap box derby car in Oregon, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his creativity and mechanical talent.

Above all else, Richard loved Jesus Christ and lived out his faith daily. His relationship with the Lord was the foundation of his life and the guiding force behind his actions. He faithfully served as chaplain for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4065 in Jefferson, Oregon, offering encouragement, prayer, and support to fellow veterans and their families.

Richard was a beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man of unwavering faith. He lived with a selfless heart, consistently placing the needs of others before his own. Family was the center of his world, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. His kindness, generosity, and servant's heart touched countless lives and left an enduring impact on all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his children, Karma Terry and Peter Terry; his brothers, Thomas Terry and Jim Terry; his sister, Sharon Terry; and his beloved grandchildren, Corbin, Arraya, Grace, Rubie, Kaylee, Conner, and Logan.

He was preceded in death by loving wife Laura Terry, his father, Ronald Terry and his mother, Betty Terry.

While his family grieves his loss, they take comfort in knowing that his faith was steadfast and that his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched. His love, laughter, wisdom, and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, the love he shared and the example he set will never be forgotten.

A life well lived, a heart deeply loved, and a legacy that will last forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Richard's honor to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4065, 1328 N. 2nd Street, Jefferson, Oregon 97352.
