Ruby Mae Peevy was born on July 17, 1930 in Dexter, Kansas to Sharkey Paul and Estella Louella (Bailey) Chamblee. During her childhood, the family would move to Portales, New Mexico where Ruby would graduate from high school. For most her life Ruby worked for the phone company. She worked many years as a telephone operator but would graduate into the work of a linesman later on. On June 21, 1954 Ruby would marry Orean Leslie Peevy who she met through a family acquaintance. Their union would start 54 years of marriage and the welcoming of 5 children, Chyrel Ann, Judy Lynn, Sarena Gaye, Orean Greg, Gary Wayne. The family would then move to Stayton in 1974 to be close to family that was in the area. Ruby was a published poet and served as part of a poetry society. She even received an award for her poetry. In her spare time, she loved to garden and be outside. Ruby loved to go on road trips and travel. Whenever anyone close to her needed someone to go on an adventure with, Ruby was the first to step up. Family was by far the most important thing to her, especially her grandchildren, and she would always go out of her way to spend time with them. Even if this meant traveling great distances. Ruby lived a life of faith and she chose to be a member of North Santiam Church of Christ. On May 17, 2020 Ruby passed away in Salem, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Orean; her parents; daughter, Judy Lynn; 6 siblings; 2 grandchildren and one missing granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Chyrel Ann Hill, Sarena Gaye Peevy, Orean Greg Peevy, Gary Wayne Peevy; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
