Shirley J. Flande

Shirley J. Flande February 13, 1936 — April 23, 2018 A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church in Scio for Shirley J. Flande, who passed away on April 23, 2018 at age 82 in Albany. Shirley was born on February 13, 1936 in Davenport, Iowa to George and Norma (Born) Krause. In 1951, Shirley moved to Scio. Shirley graduated from Scio High School in 1954 and on June 19, married Gilbert T. Flande Jr. They began a family and were blessed with four children. Shirley was devoted to her children’s activities and would accompany them to 4-H, FFA and sporting events. She was also no stranger to hard work; she helped on the family farm with raising cattle and hay. In the 1970’s, she became a substitute mail carrier. Besides work, Shirley enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, spending time with many of her beloved pets including her cats, canning and collecting antiques. Shirley will be remembered for her feisty personality and love she had for her family. In 2013, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert. She is survived by her four children, Teresa Clemens of Ennis, Montana; Belinda Allen of Bend, Oregon; Margie Schmidig of Scio, and Mark Flande of Scio; four grandchildren; sisters, Jean Krause of Jefferson and Sally Lair of Hermiston, Oregon; and many extended family members and friends.
