Steven Lee “Steve” Hall was born in Salem, Oregon on March 15, 1952 to Melvin Lee Hall and Virginia Lee Ruby. He grew up in the Stayton area and attended Stayton High School where he enjoyed and excelled at football and basketball. Steve would graduate from Stayton High School with the Class of 1970. After graduating, Steve worked in the woods as a choker setter for a while until he and three of his high school buddies went to Hawaii, where they lived on the beach for several months -- first in a cave along the beach and eventually on the beach itself or in a tree house they built from items collected on and surrounding the beach. After returning to the Stayton area, in November 1974 Steve married Jackie Mayes and later moved to southern California. While in California, his son Josh was born. Steve returned to Oregon in 1979 and returned to driving truck in the construction industries. He and Jackie divorced sometime later. In the early 80’s he met Denise Muise in Mill City, Oregon and they started dating. The two soon hit it off and would marry February 1983 in Gates, Oregon. After living in Lyons for a short period of time, Steve and Denise settled in Mill City. He continued to drive trucks throughout his working career including dump trucks, lowboys and log trucks, racking up well over 40 years of experience before his retirement in 2014. Steve loved the sport of drag racing; both watching and participating. In the mid-1990s to mid-2000’s, he would often head to the Woodburn Dragstrip with his ‘73 Cuda where his wife Denise would help as his pit crew. The two of them would also head down to Bakersfield, California to attend the Annual California Hot Rod Reunion or the March Meet at the Famoso Dragstrip whenever they could. Steve also enjoyed going to car shows -- really if anything had to do with hot rods, he was there. After retiring, he spent much of his time in his shop doing autobody work and painting cars and working in his yard. He was a stickler for having a well-groomed lawn and landscape. On May 22, 2019 Steven Lee Hall passed away at home in Mill City, Oregon with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Frank and sister-in-law Sherry Hall. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Denise; son, Josh (Tera) Hall; Grandchildren, Aubrey Hall and Alexis Hall; Father Melvin Hall; Brothers, Mike Hall, Kevin (Michele) Hall, Bryan (Debbie) Hall; Sister, Kathy (Joe) Wainman; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend Neil Choate. There will be a Celebration of Life Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mill City Eagles Lodge located at 640 SW Broadway in Mill City.
