Theodore Theirn Basye Jr., born May 1, 1958, in Salem, Oregon, to Theodore Theirn Basye and Violet Elizabeth (Chaffey), lived a life shaped by service, loyalty, and the simple joys that brought him closer to the people he cared for. He passed away on July 25, 2026 in Lebanon, Oregon. Growing up in the Salem School District, he spent his formative years building friendships and memories that stayed with him throughout his life.

After completing school, Theodore answered the call to serve his country, faithfully joining the United States Army National Guard. His dedication to duty was unwavering, and he carried the values of service, integrity, and commitment into every chapter of his life. Over the course of his military career, he earned numerous honors, including the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Army Achievement Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, the Army Reserve Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Commissioned Officer Professional Ribbons, Overseas Training Ribbons for Panama and Japan, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. These recognitions reflected not only his skill and discipline, but the heart he put into serving his country.

Outside of his military service, Theodore embraced the hobbies and pastimes that brought him joy. He loved collecting Hot Wheels cars, watching Star Wars and crime shows, working on cars, fishing, and hunting. He had a playful spirit, especially when it came to teasing his grandchildren, something that brought laughter, connection, and countless cherished moments. His homemade potato soup was a family favorite, shared generously with those he loved.

Theodore was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his children Dakena Clinton, Theodore Basye III, and Brandy Basye; his grandchildren Nicole Sargent, Brendall Grace, Taipae Schwab, Xander Schwab, Ryker Hutchinson, Ellye Basye, Davida Jo Basye-Reed, and Michael Basye-Reed; his bonus grandchildren Taber, JayDen, Jordan (Red Truck Girl), and Jazmin; and two great‑grandchildren. He is also survived by several beloved siblings, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and his military family, a brotherhood that remained close to him throughout his life, including Mitch Johnson, Willie Elfering, Jeff Hankey, Tommy, Pete, and many others whose loyalty, friendship, and shared service meant the world to him.

Theodore will be remembered for his devotion to family, his pride in service, his humor, and the warmth he brought into every room. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he poured into the people fortunate enough to know him.
