Trynca "Tom" Hastings

Trynca "Tom" Thomas Hastings passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Salem, Oregon. He was born on February 4, 1946 in El Dorado, Kansas, to Marion Thomas Hastings Sr. and Joicy Lee Skaggs.

Tom was raised alongside his large family and shared a lifelong bond with his siblings: Kenny, Darlene, Thomas, Delbert, Brenda, Lynn, Nick, Marion Jr., Glenda, Sonny, Allen, Donna, Rex, and Eva.

On July 11, 1995, Tom married the love of his life, Elzy Juanita Wilson, in Reno, Nevada. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and enduring love. He was a proud father to Brett, Carrie, Wesley, Lacey, and Amanda, and a devoted grandfather to Lori, Peter, Emily, Briggett, Ethan, Olivia, Alexis, Kailer, and Priscilla. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy.

After graduating from high school and completing welding school, Tom built an impressive career through skill, determination, and an unmatched work ethic. Throughout his life he worked as a welder, bridge builder, steel mechanic, and owner/operator truck driver. He was a respected member of Iron Workers Shopmen's Local 516 and earned recognition as a metallurgist, estimator, and master journeyman. Those who worked alongside him knew him as someone who took pride in doing every job the right way.

Tom honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Specialist (E-5) from May 1975 to December 1977 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He carried the values of service, discipline, and perseverance with him throughout his life.

Outside of work, Tom embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved motorcycles, race cars, playing poker (Lo-ball) and spending time gold mining. Whether on the open road, around the card table, or searching for gold, he enjoyed every adventure and the friendships made along the way.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elzy, his siblings Kenny, Darlene, Lynn, Nick, Delbert, and Donna; and those dear to him who welcomed him home.

He will be remembered for his strong hands, generous heart, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Weddle Funeral Service, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gates, Oregon.
