Verna A. Halsted, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, in Stayton, Oregon, at the age of 89. Born on December 16, 1934, in Seattle, Washington, to Charles and Bertha (Schutz) Wade, Verna's life was a testament to the strength of family and the joy of simple pleasures.

A graduate of Dallas High School, class of 1953, Verna ventured into the world of insurance, where she dedicated 18 years of diligent service. She then embraced the full-time role of mother and homemaker, shaping her home with the same meticulous care and devotion she brought to every aspect of her life.

Verna's enduring love story with her husband, John, spanned 56 beautiful years. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their children, Tim Halsted, Anne (Rod) Heppell, and Dan (Chantell) Halsted, as well as their cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Mia) Heppell, Jonathan (Larissa) Heppell, Brendan Heppell, and Alayna Heppell, and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Delbert Wade and Daryl Wade, who shared in the tapestry of her life's journey.

A faithful attendee of Scio Baptist Church and later Calvary Community Church in Albany, Verna's commitment to her faith was unwavering. Her interests were as rich and varied as her character; she found joy in bible study, tending to her garden, canning the fruits of her labor, and exploring the world through geography. Verna's love for Jeopardy, laughter, and walking 500 miles a year highlighted her spirited and active nature. She cherished her memories, and spent hours recording them through scrapbooks and photo albums, and she possessed an unmatched skill in organized couponing.

Verna will be remembered as a loving, faith-filled, and creative spirit whose life was a beautiful reflection of the values she held dear. Her legacy will continue to flourish in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
