Obituary

Our beloved father, Vernon W Surber Jr (82) was born in Hanford, California to Vernon W Surber Sr. and LaVetta K (Kinsey) Surber on May 4, 1943. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2026 in Turner, Oregon.

He was the oldest of 7 children. He joined the Army in November, 1962 and served his country with pride until November, 1965 serving in Germany and Korea. He remained serving his country in the Army Reserve until November, 1968.

He was a truck driver for most of his life driving everything from Cattle trucks to log trucks, pipe trucks, gas tankers and box trailers until he retired in 2005 following a truck accident. He enjoyed camping, ocean fishing and crabbing and spending time with his family. After he retired he volunteered alongside his wife Elaine at the Salvation Army and the American Legion Post #27 where he was the Commander from 2009-2010.

He is survived by his biological children and In-laws: Daughter and Son In-Law Jeanna and Tyler Young, Daughter and Son-in Law Becky and Bob Marker, Son and Daughter-in-Law Vernon W III “Joe” and Kelly Surber, his Step Son Gary Irwin and Step Daughter Sheryl Irwin. 16 Grandkids, and 9 Great Grandkids. Two Brothers and two sisters along with many nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Elaine, Grandson, his parents Vernon and LaVetta, Brother Charles “Dick”, Sister Nancy Kaye, Nieces and Nephews. 

Vernon’s Celebration of Life will be on June 19, 2026 at 10 am at the Boardman RV Park space 49, in Boardman, Oregon.
