Viola Lance, born May 18, 1948, in McAllen, Texas, to Consuelo and Lazaro Garza, lived a life shaped by creativity, devotion, and a deep love for family. She passed away on April 2, 2026 in Corvallis, Oregon. She grew up in the Rio Grande Valley before life’s path led her north, where she would eventually meet the man who became her partner in all things.
Viola met Charles Lance, and together they began a lifelong journey, marrying on November 14, 1974, in Gooding, Idaho. Their marriage was a union marked by loyalty, shared dreams, and the joy of raising a family. Viola dedicated herself to caring for their home and children, creating a warm and welcoming place where love was always at the center.
A gifted artist, Viola expressed herself through oil and acrylic painting. Her creativity extended into jewelry making, where she crafted pieces that reflected her eye for beauty and detail. She found peace in gardening, nurturing life from the soil with the same tenderness she offered those around her. Viola also had a gift for connection. She made friends wherever she went, her warmth and openness drawing people in.
Viola and Charles were blessed with three children: Dina Lance, Noemi Lance, and Doug Lance. Family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into supporting and guiding her children through every season of life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, and her son Doug Lance, losses she carried with grace and strength.
Viola is survived by her daughters Dina (Michael Penn) and Noemi (Jennifer Lance) her grandchildren Dokota Peters, Joshua Rodriguez, Sarah Rollins, and Ryan Lance; and her great‑grandchildren Zadyn Culler, Riley Culler, Eben Culler, Isabella Meyer, Lylia Tolman, Keeley Rodriguez, Deegan Rodriguez, Harper Rollins, and Oaklee Rollins.
Viola will be remembered for her artistic soul, her gentle heart, and the way she made every person feel seen and welcomed. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the beauty she brought into the world through her art and her presence.
