Walter Edgar Darling, age 95, passed away on October 21, 2026, in Albany, Oregon, just three days before his 96th birthday. Walter was born on October 24, 1930, in Escondido, California, to Fredrick and Phoebe K. Darling. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Walter worked as a truck driver, faithfully providing for his family through years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
On December 28, 1957, Walter married the love of his life, Beverly, at First Baptist Church in Lebanon, Oregon. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. Walter was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and his faith was the foundation upon which he lived his life. In 1962, he helped establish Crowfoot Baptist Church in Lebanon, Oregon, where he was a charter member. He played an instrumental role in the construction of the church and remained a faithful and dedicated member of his church family throughout his life. His willingness to serve others and lend a helping hand was a true reflection of his love for the Lord and those around him.
Above all, Walter was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He treasured the time he spent with Beverly and their children and took great joy in watching his family grow through the generations. He especially enjoyed camping with his family, traveling, working on jigsaw puzzles, and tackling projects around his home and neighborhood. Whether spending time with loved ones or lending a hand to someone in need, Walter found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Even after retirement, Walter continued to find purpose and fulfillment in helping others. Whether assisting his children and grandchildren with their projects or sharing his skills and talents with families in his church, he was always willing to give generously of his time. His kindness, strong work ethic, and servant’s heart touched the lives of many.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Darling; their four children, Scott Darling (wife Kandace), Wally Darling (wife Linda), Dana Darling, and Todd Darling (wife Pam); 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Phoebe Darling; his siblings, Francis Darling, Daisy Irwin, and Fredericka Conrad; his grandchildren, Mitchell Darling and Melissa Godsey-Seitsworth; and his great-grandchild, Marvin Gerig.
Walter will be lovingly remembered for his steadfast faith, unwavering devotion to his family, strong work ethic, and generous spirit. His life was a beautiful testament to his love for Jesus Christ and his desire to serve others. The example he set through his kindness, dedication, and willingness to help will remain a cherished legacy for his family and all who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service celebrating Walter’s life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Crowfoot Baptist Church, 699 Cascade Drive, Lebanon, Oregon.
